The Rev John Linn, father of Nancy Elliott Linn Shaver, was twice
married. His first wife, Agnes Elliott, whom he married on January
15, 1818, survived, by one month, the birth of their only child, Nancy,
who was born November 20, 1818. Six years later, March 11, 1826, he
married Mary McClure, daughter of the Rev David McClure, who settled
in Huntingdon county prior to it's erection from Cumberland county.
To the second union seven children were born, John, William, Samuel,
James, Andrew and two daughters, Annie, who married John Devan, and
Polly, who married Samuel Anderson.
In his ministerial traveling he crossed the Susquehanna river, west
of Harrisburg, and finally settled on a section near Fort Robinson.
His death at the age of 76 years marked the passing of one of the
earliest Presbyterian ministers in Pennsylvania.
