War Record of Peter Shaver, as recorded in various series
of the Pennsylvania Archives, in which there is no conflicting data,
we believe as follows:
July 17, 1777
Peter Shaver, Ensign
Company 1, 4th class, 8th Division, Cumberland County Militia
(Series 5, vol. 6, p. 511)
November 14, 1777
Peter Shaver, Ensign
Same Company
Captain William Long. 2nd Lieutenant John Riddleberger
(Series 6, vol.6, page 524)
May 14,1778
Peter Shaver, Ensign
Same Company
(Series 5, vol. 6, p. 532)
1779
Peter Shaver
During this period Peter Shaver served as en interpreter of German
papers, documents and language for the officers under whom he served.
There are no records showing his service in this department of the
army, for officers of the Revolutionary War seldom, if ever, included
the names of interpreters in their roster of soldiers. These presumptuous
records are based upon the facts mentioned by the son, David.
