“Connie,” our newest daughter-in-law, is the wife of our
youngest and last son, Verne. She is a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Fortune
Maurin of New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was born on the above
date. Of French descendancy, her ancestry could possibly be traced
back into the early part of the seventeenth century when France purchased
from Spain the territory then known as Louisiana, which, at that time,
extended into North Carolina.
While not an unusual occurrence the name Fortune has been retained
through four generations. The name, in French, is pronounced For-too’-ne.
At an early age she enrolled and graduated from the Louisiana State
University, following up with graduating from the Nursing School of
Charity Hospital, in New Orleans. While specializing in Psychiatrics
at Charity hospital she and her future husband began their romance.
On August 31, 1957 they were married in the Second Presbyterian Church,
Wilkinsburg and for a brief time she served in the Psychiatric Hospital
in Pittsburgh. On July 11, 1958, a son was born to comfort her, so
far from her parents. [Connie and Verne later
had two additional sons and two daughters.]
